Since the News Generation staff lives and breathes radio all day long, we thought it would be fun to share our earliest memories or most memorable incidents of radio in our personal lives. Perhaps because I missed the meeting where everyone shared these recollections, I got tagged to be the first to publicly share mine.
In my house, the transistor radio in the kitchen was ALWAYS on and set to the local news station, WLAD (http://wlad.com/). It was a predictable, almost comforting, buzz in the background of our household hub.
My mom wouldn’t allow us to change it and though I would have preferred to hear top-40 hits and America’s Countdown – as if my more sophisticated, Beatle-obsessed, turned new-wave-loving sisters would have allowed that! I do appreciate to this day, hearing one landmark, breaking news story – the tragic murder of John Lennon.
