Q&A with Alex Davila, Adarga Entertainment Group

What role does radio play in the Hispanic/Latino communities?

I would say radio is highly relevant, with about 40 million listeners from the Hispanic/Latino communities.  Another interesting trend has been that the hosts are becoming social media royalty, and a brand unto themselves. Listeners become hooked with their minds and thoughts, especially during their morning and afternoon commutes. Radio is still moving music and events, and still trending on social media in the Hispanic/Latino communities.  Album releases, talk shows, news, and current events are still the backbone of traditional radio.

How about social media? How to Spanish radio stations utilize it?

Spanish radio stations are mobilizing social media to create a brand, make statements, bring trends and grow their fan base.  Spanish radio station personnel are not only concerned with content and the voice people are hearing, but they are also concerned with image. They want to draw a crowd and make a noticeable presence through social media. This has helped broaden their audience with applications such as the popular known “Tune-In” with more than 50 million listeners monthly.

How does this information benefit public relations professionals pitching stations that have a Hispanic/Latino Audience?

Each Radio station will have its own DNA; make sure to hear and read social media to find out what they are talking about now and what has been interesting to them in the past. Establish a relationship that is, and will be, your secret weapon to sending your perfect pitch.
