Every year, Nielsen updates its list of radio and television DMA rankings for 210 markets across the country. According to a recent article from TV News Check, “39 markets increased their rankings, while 46 markets experienced a drop in their rankings.”
While most of changes in the DMA rankings were a move up or down one, the greatest changes were markets moving three spots. Specifically in the top-20 markets, seven markets moved in the rankings. “In one change, Washington, DC and Boston, MA swapped places this year, with Boston falling to 8 and Washington, DC moving up to 7, respectively.” Tampa – St. Petersburg, which was ranked at 13 last year, also experienced a change in the ranking, moving up two places. In another noteworthy change, “Cleveland and Orlando switched places, moving to 18 and 19 respectively.”
Looking ahead to next year, it will be interesting to see how the DMA rankings change. We update our list every year when the new data comes out.
