Every year, Nielsen updates its list of radio and television DMA rankings for the 210 markets across the country. According to an article from TV News Check, “there are only five changes in the top 20 markets and two among the top 10: Boston is now 9, Atlanta is 10. But there is a lot of movement in markets 39 on down.”
In the new rankings there were only two changes among the top 10 markets and five among the top 20:
Boston moved up one spot, from 10 to 9
Atlanta dropped one, from 9 to 10
Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla., moved up from 13 to 11
Phoenix dropped one to No. 12
Seattle-Tacoma slipped one to 13
The biggest changes were both nine-slot moves: Peoria-Bloomington climbed from 122 last season to 113, while Wichita-Hutchinson fell from 67 to 76.
Looking ahead to next year, it will be interesting to see how the DMA rankings change. We update our list every year when the new data comes out.
