Since NewsGen and 4media group have teamed up, I can now glean even more podcast recommendations for you. I tapped the expertise of my coworkers so I could compile a list of must-listen-to podcasts to share (and add to my long list of “liked” podcasts on Spotify).

Check out what they recommend below, and let us know what you’re listening to right now by tweeting us at @newsgeneration.

Alex Hinojosa, EVP, Insights & Integrated Strategy at 4media, is a huge fan of podcasts, much akin to his love of sports. Speaking of sports, Alex has some recommendations that are sure to be home runs. The Bill Simmons Podcast, which has a great mix of entertainment, sports, and pop culture summed up within two to three episodes per week. Revisionist History with Malcom Gladwell is a thought-provoking look at historical events through a unique lens that is sure to pique your interest.

As our resident NPR fiend and founder of News Generation, Susan Apgood is always trying to grow her knowledge of people and how the world around her works. She recommends Hidden Brain, an NPR podcast about unconscious patterns that drive human behavior, shape choices, and direct relationships. And, Freakonomics Radio also comes highly recommended by Susan, originally a book about cheating teachers, bizarre baby names, and self-dealing Realtors, that has sold more than 5 million copies in 40 languages. Susan is also a fan of How I Built This by Guy Raz. She is always interested to how companies started, and how many of them did not become well-known for what they started out doing.

Kyle Worley, Account Coordinator at 4media, has a couple of recommendations that have been passed down to him from friends and peers. His recommendations include Girls Gotta Eat, discussing topics like friendships, relationships, dating, and social issues. His roommate got him into this podcast and he’s been hooked since, drawn to the humor of the hosts and the celebrities they sometimes feature. Also, Lean Back: Critical Feminist Conversations. In grad school, Kyle and his friends attended a professor’s live podcast show several times a year.

Brand-new to the team, Sarah Hegi is Account Service Director at 4media. Sarah has MANY podcast recommendations, making her very well-listened(Is that a word? The podcast version of well-read, is what we’re trying to say). Sarah recommends listening to: Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!, good for a laugh and staying up to date on current events. Unlocking Us with Brené Brown, helpful in reflecting on individual communication styles and how we connect with people. And, Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations. Like most of us, Sarah loves Oprah, and says forward-thinking people like Oprah help broaden her own thinking.

Michelle Garceau, Manager of Media Relations at NewsGen, likes to better her own craft by listening to podcasts about journalism and the news industry. The Kicker, from Columbia Journalism Review, encourages excellence in journalism in the service of a free society. Similarly, On the Media with Brooke Gladstone and Bob Garfield, is a weekly investigation into how the media shapes our worldview. Michelle says staying up to date on what’s going on as communicators has never been more important.
