SUSAN MATTHEWS APGOOD, PRESIDENT AND CEO

Susan has been in public relations since opening the doors of News Generation in 1997. She is active in a number of public relations associations, including the Public Relations Society of America- National Capital Chapter (PRSA-NCC) and Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR) of which she is currently Treasurer. In 2014, she was one of three finalists for Washington Women in PR’s Woman of the Year award.

Apgood is an adjunct professor in the Kogod School of Business at American University. She is proud to lead the Development Committee and serve on the Board of JUST TRYAN IT, a non-profit working to positively impact the lives of families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer. She earned her MBA in finance from American University and BA in economics from George Washington University. For fun, she competes in triathlons, bike rides and half marathons. She lives in Bethesda, Maryland with her husband and three sons.

RYAN MILLER – MANAGER, MEDIA RELATIONS

Ryan joined the team in January of 2016. He graduated in 2010 from Lynchburg College with a B.A. in Communication Studies with an emphasis on Public Relations & Journalism. Ryan has a background in sports media, having previously worked for the ESPN affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also spent time with SiriusXM radio in Washington D.C., where he worked as an associate producer for the PGA TOUR channel, as well as a board operator for sports programming.

KELSEY POSPISIL O’PLANICK – DIRECTOR, MARKETING & OPERATIONS

Kelsey joined the team in August of 2013. She has reported for both print and television, and has a passion for storytelling and media relations. In 2018, she was a vice president of the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-NCC). She previously served one year as a board member and two years as the co-chair of the New Professionals committee. Kelsey is a member of PRSA and Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR). She earned her Master of Journalism degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Bachelor of Arts in communication from the University of Delaware.

MICHAEL SHULMAN – MANAGER, MEDIA RELATIONS

Michael joined the team in September of 2019. He has worked in communications and media relations, with a focus on mental health and international affairs. Prior to joining News Generation, Michael worked in communications for the American Psychological Association, The International Crisis Group and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. He earned his Master of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri and Bachelor of Arts in communication from the University of Maryland.

MICHELLE GARCEAU – MEDIA REPRESENTATIVE

Michelle joined the team in April of 2007. She has been a part of the media relations industry for a number of years, both providing strategic counsel and implementing broadcast outreach campaigns. Most recently, she was the Vice President of Media Relations at WCTV, the broadcast division of Weber Shandwick, where she served as a main broadcast contact on the Microsoft account. Prior to WCTV, she worked at Global Communications & Television, Medialink Corporate Television and News 12 Long Island. She holds a BS in mass communication from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.

SCOTT LYNCH – MEDIA RELATIONS ASSOCIATE

Scott joined our team in January 2019. Scott has worked as a public relations professional for World Central Kitchen, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, and Xfinity since arriving in Washington D.C. in August 2013. He graduated from American University in 2017 with a major in public relations and minor in marketing. While in school, Scott was a member of American University’s Public Relations Student Society of America (AU PRSSA) and was the Vice President of Recruitment for Zeta Beta Tau at American University.

MARTIN DIAZ – BILINGUAL MEDIA REPRESENTATIVE

Martin joined the team in August of 2010. He is from Uruguay, and in South America he worked with talented advertising agencies, magazines, newspapers, radio and television. In 2005, he moved to Atlanta and worked with CNN Español Radio then worked with Latin American Pay Television Services, and has worked with bilingual Newspapers, Magazines and Marketing Companies located in Atlanta and Los Angeles. He is fluent in Spanish, English, Portuguese and Italian and has a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and marketing from his hometown of Montevideo.

CAROLYN MULREED – MEDIA REPRESENTATIVE

Carolyn joined the News Generation team in August of 1999. She has experience working with start-up companies, government agencies and local organizations. Her extensive frontline experience in the service industry makes her a natural as a media relations associate. Carolyn has a BA in management science/marketing and a minor in communications from Kean College in New Jersey.

SOPHIE HARCLEROAD – MARKETING & MEDIA RELATIONS INTERN

Sophie is the intern at News Generation. She is currently a student at American University studying public relations, strategic communication and marketing. Previously she has interned at a professional association for healthcare providers as well as for the mayor of Pittsfield, MA, where she attended boarding school. She is from New York.
